MTVs creativity, using their own ideas combined with innovative application techniques is the distinguishing characteristic of their service, this combined with an unusually high lifting capability of up to 100 tonnes allows them to apply the newest coatings to extraordinarily heavy and large components.
An example which illustrates this unique capability comes from the SOFIA project. A NASA/DLR Boeing 747SP jumbo jet, housing a flying observatory is used in this project. The main infrared telescope has a diameter of 2700 mm. A large component part of the hydrostatic bearing housing for the telescope was plated at MTV with 2 mm of Sulphamate Nickel. In order to meet the very exacting demands of SOFIA, equipment and handling technology had to be developed especially for this project
