In 1976 it became necessary to plan for the safe transportation and long-term storage of nuclear waste. It was necessary to manufacture a suitable container for this application.
In 1988 this concept became a practicality, with MTV employing the most up-to-date electrolyte technology, processing “knowhow” and special handling techniques for these very large components.
Today, after 15 years and over 300 containers processed, the CASTOR® treatment is a routine operation for MTV. During these 15 years it has been possible to make additional savings by streamlining the transportation and optimising the processing technology. In the meantime the basic CASTOR® technology has been improved which contributes further to the effi ciency.
MTV’s concept was realized complying with the offi cial requirements for the nuclear industry and delivering close-tolerance, precision-coated equipment as well as a surface fi nish which cannot be surpassed, naturally at a viable cost.
